The Watering Hole, 12/02/2015: Quotes

Some quotes from Thomas Jefferson:

Enlighten the people, generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like spirits at the dawn of day.

I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education.

Say nothing of my religion. It is known to God and myself alone. Its evidence before the world is to be sought in my life: if it has been honest and dutiful to society the religion which has regulated it cannot be a bad one.

Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear.

We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.

  1. “The country is headed toward a single and splendid government of an aristocracy founded on banking institutions and monied corporations, and if this tendency continues it will be the end of freedom and democracy, the few will be ruling and riding over the plundered plowman and the beggar.” ~ Thomas Jefferson

“Religious institutions that use government power in support of themselves and force their views on persons of other faiths, or of no faith, undermine all our civil rights. Moreover, state support of an established religion tends to make the clergy unresponsive to their own people, and leads to corruption within religion itself. Erecting the ‘wall of separation between church and state,’ therefore, is absolutely essential in a free society.” ~Thomas Jefferson

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.” ~Solomon (Ecclesiastes)

    • Note: to all warrior wannabes….Play with explosives, they will sometimes explode.
The trick is to have them always explode when you want them to..
Remember, you could take someone’s eye out!

  2. As predictable as the tides. FAUX”News” is already whining about how “Democrats” will politicize this most recent mass shooting while simultaneously screeching that it proves we need boots on the ground in Syria. I’m done asking WTF is wrong with those freaks. They’re fucking ghouls. Every last damned one of them including the so-called “libruls” who dutifully pout while being talked over, shouted down, and booted off the set if they ever even manage to blurt out a single word of truth. In fact. I’m done being angry at the rightwhiners. Any so-called :librul” who accepts a paycheck from the Network of American Destructionism is every bit as guilty as the rest. If they want to save their souls? They should damned well quit and break the vaunted Murdoch non-disclosure agreement to tell the world how bad it really is from the inside. And, yes, I am looking especially at Alan Colmes and Juan Williams. The blood is on their hands too!

      • But if the party was yesterday, and the shootings were today, that means even if they were all packing, they’d have had no one to shoot at. Unless of course the shooter used Obama’s Magic Time Machine.

  3. Watching the San Bernardino unfolding, I’m trying to get used to hearing the KNBC news anchor repeatedly saying, “back to Chopper4 with Chris Christie.”

      • There was a picture of a bunch of people exiting the building with their hands in the air to show the cops that they weren’t packing heat. If any of them had guns I think it would have ended even more badly.

        • Indeed, petelngh.

Haven’t seen the ages of the punks who took umbrage with people needing Social Services and ending up losing their lives.

  4. Gee, if only more people had had guns, they could have all been blasting away with promiscuous abandon in random directions without any idea who was a “good guy with a gun,” thereby guaranteeing universal safety and security.
