The Watering Hole; Friday May 20 2016; Conservative(?) Visuals

Thought today might be a good day to switch focus a bit, away from the verbal and more to the visual — cartoon style, for the most part. Near as I can tell, I’ve collected these things off-and-on across the last ten years, snagging most (if not all) from internet posts, maybe the occasional tweet. I’m not sure about attribution — the names are either really hard to read or absent completely. Oh well, I must say that whatever the case, I’m extremely grateful to whomever it was that produced each and all — they never fail to bring forth at least a chuckle, and occasionally a raucous laugh!

The first two are editorial cartoons from the (Phoenix) Arizona Republic, drawn by their long-time (progressive) ed. cartoonist Steve Benson back in 2006. Subjects obvious.🙂

Benson-pledge

This next one is at least as apropos today as it was ten years ago!

Land of Oz revisited:

From some unrecorded moment following the passage of the ACA:

This one pretty much defines (much to their collective distress) wingnut gun owners:

Salvation for dummies

Nazi vs. YeeHaw, philosophically defined (more or less):

Achtung v Yeehaw

Onward to current times and Paul Krugman’s analysis of Donald Trump:

Cartoon in ref. to Trump’s tweet in Dec 2015 when he went full Schmuck on Hillary, used the word ‘Schlong:

GOP’s favorite way to “govern”:

gop tax crap

Here’s the perfect summary of the GOP’s view on the Paris Climate summit outcome:

And finally, this fabulous summary of what many of us wish would have been the reaction of Native American Peoples to the arrival of all those ‘illegal aliens’ and ‘undocumented immigrants’ from Europe:

Plymouth Rock wall

That one’s somewhat reminiscent of the first Benson cartoon up top, speaks volumes that I’m sure no living wingnut could ever comprehend because, as John Stewart Mill noted many many years ago,

“Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most
stupid people are conservatives.”

OK, one more to make a Baker’s Dozen:

Aliens

Touché.

“We’ll have to leave it there.”

  1. The one concerning climate change is my favorite, I just don’t see a downside to not burning all available fossil fuel as quickly as possible. I imagine most political cartoonists are going to have a field day with the fascist with the comb over.

  2. Sometime I wish I was a cartoonist — SO much material is begging for coverage!

Wiles: God Will Collapse US Economy As Judgment For Planned Parenthood ‘Devil-Worship’

“There are certain issues in this country that the establishment will go to war to defend,” Wiles told his cohost Doc Burkhart. “Baby-killing is one of them. Homosexuality is another one. Sexual perversion is another one.”

Abortion providers, he said, aren’t just mistaken — they are worshipping Satan. “Make no mistake about it, it is the human sacrifice to Satan,” he said. “They are sacrificing babies to Lucifer. It’s not just unsaved people, bad people, that we’re dealing with. They’re Luciferian devil-worshippers. The abortion mills are blood-sacrifice centers. They are sacrificing children to Baal.”

    . . .

“What is the connection to baby parts?” he asked. “It’s judgment. It’s judgment. A massive collapse of the U.S. economic system will shut down Planned Parenthood. That’s it. Who’s buying baby parts then?”

    • That’s some weapons grade batshit crazy. If God were going to take our our economy, he should have done it back in 2007 when it would have been easy. Come to think of it, if I were a Christian who believed there were hoards of folks out there sacrificing to Satan, I’d expect to find them among those in high finance rather than those providing health care to poor women.

  3. Sandy Rios: Openly Gay Army Secretary Can’t Lead Men Into Battle

“When it comes to leading men into battle, when it comes to being secretary of the Army, I’ll take an alpha male any day,” she said. “I’m sorry. I know these war-like men too well and I don’t think most of them — very few of them are gay. You that are in the gay community, if you were to describe your friends and colleagues who are in this community, I don’t think you would describe them as warriors. I’m sure there are some, but still, I would prefer an alpha male.”

Based on that, I recommend an internation treaty that allows only gays and/or Lesbians in the military. The result, clearly, would be NO MORE WARS!!

As for Rios, gotta hand it to her. She may sound like a right wing nutcase, but she’s obviously a really DEEP THINKER!

  4. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz has lost Bill Moyers.

Democrats Can’t Unite Unless Wasserman Schultz Goes!

The Democratic National Committee chair has thrown fuel on the flames of infighting just as the party faces a critical November election.

To paraphrase the words of that Scottish master Robert Burns, the best laid plans of mice, men — and women — go often astray, or “gang aft agley,” as they say in the Highlands. No one knows this better than Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Twice now, the flight of her presidential aspirations has been forced to circle the airport as other contenders put up an unexpected fight: In 2008, Barack Obama emerged to grab the Democratic nomination away and this year, although all signs point to her finally grabbing the brass ring, unexpected and powerful progressive resistance came from the mighty wind of the Bernie Sanders campaign.

Certainly, Hillary Clinton is angered by all of this, but the one seemingly more aggrieved — if public comments and private actions are any indication — is Democratic National Committee chair and Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Hillary surrogate who takes umbrage like ordinary folks pop their vitamins in the morning.
