I read the news today, oh boy.

I read the news today, oh boy.

Another law abiding citizen shot and killed two people. She was a staunch supporter of gun ownership so she could protect herself and her daughters.

She shot and killed two people – her daughters. Apparently during a family argument.

She was a good-guy with a gun, until the moment she wasn’t.

She was then shot and killed by the police.

Another former law abiding citizen with a gun, shot and killed by the police.

She was a staunch supporter of gun ownership.

I’m sorry, NRA, but guns DO kill people. That’s what they’re designed to do. They’re designed to be the most lethal weapons available to the common citizen.

It has been written, “He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword.” The same is true of gun ownership.

Because we fear – bad guys breaking into our houses – government enslavement – monsters under our beds – no tragedy is horrific enough to move us to give up the right to possess guns. Mass murders – mall shoppers – movie goers – kindergartners – nightclubs – occurr so often they’re no longer shocking. Just sad.

Accepted as inevitable, it is the price of fear.

  1. While no guns were involved, (at least, AFAIK**) when I might have still been in grammar school, my sister (around age 18 at that time) ‘foiled’ a ‘home intrusion/attempted burglary’ by…wait for it…flushing the toilet. Turns out it was a few of my brother’s neighborhood friends** breaking in – it was the kind of thing kids did for thrills back in those days – thinking that no one was home. For some reason my sister had come home early, and, obviously, was in the bathroom when she heard a couple of people with non-family voices coming in the front door. She didn’t know what to do, but after a few moments she decided to try to flush the toilet in the hopes that it would scare the intruders off. Yup, it worked!

**My sister later figured out that she knew two of the voices, One was a girl whose family lived 3 or 4 houses up the street, who, not much later than this episode, got in trouble for ‘borrowing’ her father’s gun (I don’t remember much else about that part.) The other was a good friend of my brother’s who, when in his early 20s, married another local girl whom he had impregnated; had several kids by his mid-20s, and in his late 20s committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. 😦

  2. This is a new one. I watched a nice little documentary about the strange things that live in the Amazon River and the rain forest. Not too in depth; just a peek. But? The narrator said “climate change” or “changing climate” three or four times and “evolved over millions of years” once. Bring in the kooks!

I have grown to expect the usual fundy “God created the universe 6,000 years ago” BS and climate change denial but this guy effortlessly blends his climate change denial by blaming chemtrails. So, I guess, he isn’t strictly a climate change denier or even a man-made climate change denier but rather he insists that climate change is happening and is caused by man but it’s caused by deadly metal dust dumped out of military aircraft because… reasons.

    Here’s the comment.

“Total 100% propaganda . ” changing climate ” bullsh@t !!! Try googling “Solar Radiation Management , or Geoengineering ” Our loving governments are spraying tiny dust of deadly metals in the sky to manipulate the weather. They dump metric tons of Barium, Strontium , Aluminum and Manganese out the back of specially adapted military aircraft. They are killing the planet and blaming it on your energy/automobile use !!! look it up !!”

And here’s the link to the documentary. Most of it is just good footage of odd critters but it’s easy to watch.
