The Tappan Zee Bridge, which crosses the Hudson not very far to the south of us, has just been equipped with a live-feed Peregrine Falcon camera. So now that April the giraffe has calved, one can switch gears and watch for a hatching and subsequent hatchlings.

The peregrine falcons make me think of our dear departed EbbandFlow. She was such a lovely person, and I still miss her so much.
I know. Last night when I went to FB to get the Easter Rat pic, at the bottom of the page there was a link to I-forget-what site, and it said that it was ‘recommended by ebbandflow and’ however-many others. It really took me aback, and I just stared at her name in sadness. She was always such a sweet, calming presence, ever since we were all at ThinkProgress. Once we moved to the Zoo, the photos that she posted were a treat that I know we all enjoyed. Sigh.
I wish I could have met her. We both grew up in the same area and had the same taste in music. I left the bay area many years ago and can’t see myself going back. There’s no one left there that I had as a friend growing up.

Well? I spent the weekend with friends and had a rousing, drunken, good time for the Easter weekend; with a very concerted effort to avoid any mention of my dead cat.. I had a great Friday night, a miserable Saturday morning, a numb Saturday evening, a brutal Sunday morning, topped with a dinner of toast and broth meant to begin a slow recovery. My stomach is OK and I will be back on solid food shortly.
Then I came home to my cat-free apartment and went straight down the crapper; emotionally speaking. It was bitter but brief and now I can start reassembling my sanity. Jimmy Dore helped!
Yeah. He’s talking about the horrible things our country is doing and the horrible people who are cheering on those horrible things but he has one truly golden line.
“We used to manufacture weapons to fight wars. Now we manufacture wars to justify buying weapons.” Or something like that. I am feeling better but things are a bit fuzzy so I might have botched the quote but I think I got his meaning.

BTW. I usually take a couple months after the death of a pet before I start looking for a replacement but this one was so sudden and unexpected that I think I need a new kitty ASAP. The local Humane Society has a couple likely looking prospects and I might even go visit them this evening. Or? I could kidnap (catnap?) my best friend’s fluffy kitty and make him look for a new one.
I’m so very sorry for your loss, pete, we know what it’s like and how hard it is to adjust to the hole that’s left in your life.
Our two youngest escaped early this morning when one of the older cats opened the front window. We’ve been trying to find them all day, but they’re still missing, and I’m terribly worried.
Thanks, Jane. I’ve had a couple cats simply disappear and that’s brutal; perhaps worse than a sudden death. I really hope they turn up with wicked grins on their furry faces.
I was not able to get out shopping today but I have a clean slate tomorrow. It will take all my willpower to actually find a compatible companion instead of just taking home the first pussy that rubs against my leg!
The local Humane Society has a 3 year old female they describe as: “affectionate, shy, and playful”. She should be a great companion for an old guy who is “affectionate, shy, and playful” but I don’t want to get my hopes too high.
She sounds like a good match for you, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
We got Luna back in safely around 10:30 last night, but as of about 11:00 last night, Blaze was still out somewhere outside the house. She showed up on the back deck about 9:00 last night, but every time we tried to coax her to come in, she ran off. At that point it seemed like she was circling the house,meowing, but we couldn’t get her to come in the front window. I slept near that window last night, but never heard her during the night. We haven’t seen or heard her at all today, and it’s making me crazy.
Keep your fingers crossed for me, too, please.
