Maddow Reveals The True Intentions Of FreedomWorks Anti-Healthcare Reform

The conservatives don’t have solutions, in fact, they don’t even want this conversation to even take place.  The Tea Party organizers view this as a chance “to realistically kill Obama’s agenda.”

FreedomWorks is an organization which continually shows up on the “grassroots” websites against health care reform.  They admit they are co-partners to all Tea Party Patriots.  FreedomWorks is making sure the discussion at all town hall meetings gets disrupted or completely shut down, so there’s no chance at having any actual debate or discussion on health care reform.

President Obama Dispels Myth Of “Death Panels” At NH Town Hall

President Obama said, “it turns out that this I guess rose out of a provision in one of the House bills that allowed Medicare to reimburse people for consultations about end of life care” as well as living wills, hospice care, and the like. The “intention,” the president said, was to help patients prepare for “end of life on their own terms.”

President Obama said the “irony” is that one of the chief sponsors of this idea was Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., who “sensibly thought this would expand peoples’ options.”

CNN: Family Raffles Off House To Save Their Child’s Life

The Thornton family are raffling off a house, in Clayton Co., Georgia, to pay medical bills for Payton’s future transplant.

Another reason why we so desperately need healthcare reform.

To say “my fate is not tied to your fate is like saying, ‘Your end of the boat is sinking’.”

Alabama Sheriff Asks Governor To Send In National Guard During $4.1M Budget Cut

Without state aid, he wrote in a letter to Riley, his office “cannot provide the level of public safety that residents of Jefferson County deserve and expect.”

“If state funding of deputies’ salaries is not an option, then I must call upon you to activate the National Guard,” the letter to Riley said.

Gibbs: Rush Should Be “On Thin Ice” For Nazi Comments

Gibbs says: “I think anytime you make references to what happened in Germany in the ’30’s and ’40’s. I think you’re talking about an event that has no equivalent.  I think anytime anyone ventures to compare anything to that – they’re on thin ice.”

Schuster Interviews “Birther” Orly Taitz Over Obama’s Birth Certificate

From the War Room  – Alex Koppelman at Salon.com

Full disclosure: I was supposed to be on MSNBC this afternoon talking about the Birthers and their release of what they claim is a copy of President Obama’s Kenyan birth certificate. (It’s really an obvious forgery.) But shortly after I agreed to go on, the booker called and said they had to cancel. The reason why, it turns out, is that they’d booked de facto Birther movement leader Orly Taitz instead.

But in this case, I think this interview served a purpose, as Taitz did a fair amount of damage to her cause all by herself. Anyone who was on the fence and watched the interview could not possibly come away from it thinking she’s credible.

For me, this is a continuing theme I keep seeing over and over again.  The birthers and teabaggers do an interview to obfuscate, lie and scream over the interviewer hoping someone will believe them.  When you have facts and logic on your side, there is never a need to lie or yell.  I agree with Koppelman, she hurt her chances of anyone taking her seriously after watching that.  Me personally, I could only handle about three minutes of it……

“Playing For Change: Peace Through Music”

The Inspiration

Playing for Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The idea for this project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. No matter whether people come from different geographic, political, economic, spiritual or ideological backgrounds, music has the universal power to transcend and unite us as one human race. And with this truth firmly fixed in our minds, we set out to share it with the world.

One of my friends from high school was inspired to start Picture Peace! His thought was the same through photography.  Here is the link. Please check it out. Bill would like people to share photos of what peace means to them.

Sen. Al Franken Asks Sotomayor About Abortion & The Law

Sen. Al Franken asks Sotomayor, “Do you believe this right to privacy includes a right to have an abortion?”

The new kid on the block is doing good, but I never doubted it for a moment.  He asked a legitimate question, which we can see that the Republicans are having a very difficult time doing =)  I have come to the conclusion, they would rather beat a dead horse!

America’s Worst Unknown Environmental Disaster

Three days before Christmas, a barrier broke and toxic sludge spilled across 300 acres in Roane County, Tennessee.  Now much of this land is under six feet of sludge. This Tennessee coal plant created, for the United States, the largest environmental disaster.

A forty-acre pond containing toxic coal ash has collapsed, spilling out millions of gallons of coal ash. Environmentalists say the spill is more than thirty times larger than the Exxon Valdez, but the story has received little national attention.

2.6 million cubic yards of coal ash spilled out of the retention pond, burying homes and roads.  The sludge has flowed into the Emory River, a tributary of the Tennessee River, which provides drinking water to millions of people downstream in Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky.

CollateralNews: DoD Regards Lawful Protests As “Low-Level Terrorism”

Anti-terrorism training materials currently being used by the Department of Defense (DoD) teach its personnel that free expression in the form of public protests should be regarded as “low level terrorism.” ACLU attorneys are calling the approach “an egregious insult to constitutional values” and have sent a letter to the Department of Defense demanding that the offending materials be changed and that the DoD send corrective information to all DoD employees who received the erroneous training.

“DoD employees cannot fully protect our nation and its values unless they understand that a core American value is the constitutional right to criticize our government through protest activities,” said ACLU of Northern California attorney Ann Brick. “It is fundamentally wrong to equate activism with terrorism.”

BraveNewFilms: Talks To A Former Insurance VP About Industry Practices

Ann Coulter On Palin: She is “Too Big” To Be Alaska’s Governor

At this point, I don’t know why anyone interviews Coulter anymore.   She thinks it shows great intelligence that Sarah Palin is abandoning her post as Governor of Alaska.  Like Newt she adds no value; the only thing those two are good for, is making inflammatory statements so that the Media will plaster their faces on the six o’clock news.

The Statue Of Liberty’s Crown Reopens Today

Lady Liberty  has been closed since right after the terrorists attack on 9/11.   In order to get to the top, you have to climb 354 steps.   All the tickets sold out fast for the reopening.

Among the Statue of Liberty’s changes since closing: improved, higher handrails on the main staircase; an enhanced the public address system; and starting this Fourth of July, stricter limits on visitors.

Other Remodeling:

Beginning in 1982 the Statue of Liberty—with scaffolding eventually obscuring it from toes to torch—began undergoing a major restoration timed to the statue’s centennial in 1986.

The biggest 1980s change was the replacement of Liberty’s torch.

CNN: Was Navy Sailor, August Provost, Murdered Because He Was Gay?

A sailor found dead earlier this week at California’s Camp Pendleton was shot while standing sentry, and a fire was set in an attempt to cover up evidence, the U.S. Navy said.

The death of Seaman August Provost of Houston, Texas, is being investigated as a homicide, Capt. Matt Brown told reporters on Thursday.

A sailor was taken into custody, because of his own statement and physical evidence collected at the scene.  My heartfelt condolences to the Provost family.

The Top 12 Harmful Food Additives You Need To Eliminate From Your Diet

First on the list is Sodium Nitrate.  Switching to turkey bacon in the morning is not good for your health.  The reason, sodium nitrate is in processed meats, such as, hot dogs, regular bacon, turkey bacon, bologna and many lunch meats.

What is sodium nitrite? Sodium nitrite is a food additive used as a preservative. It is used to extend the life of meats, and to prevent the growth of bacteria.

What’s the problem? Sodium nitrite is toxic. When you eat it, nitrosamines are formed. These dangerous compounds are highly carcinogenic. During lab studies, researchers inject these compounds into lab mice when they want to give them cancer. Clearly, this is not something we should be consuming. Although you may be consuming less fat by eating turkey products instead of red meat, you are not necessarily reducing your cancer risk. In fact; cancer risk is thought to be higher in meat than other foods, not simply because of the higher saturated fat content, but because of the sodium nitrite content.

Second on the list is BHA & BHT.

BHA and BHT stands for Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). These are food additives that are used as a preservative to keep food from spoilage. BHA and BHT can be found in butter, meats, chewing gum, snack foods, dehydrated potatoes, and even beer. These additives are approved by the FDA as safe for human consumption. However, they are proven carcinogens. There is proof that some people have difficulty metabolizing BHA and this can result in health and behavioral changes.

“The structure of BHA and BHT will change during this process [of preserving food], and may form a compound that reacts in the body,” says Gerbstadt. “BHA and BHT are not stable or inert. They’re not just hanging out and being excreted by the body.” Gerbstadt says that they are obviously not added for the purpose of giving people cancer, but for some people, some of the time, there may be that risk.

Third on the list is Trans fats.   This one really ticks me off.  Try finding hamburgers without trans fats in them, it is almost impossible.  Hamburgers taste perfectly fine without them adding trans fats.  Also, those who use margarines, they may not list them in the ingredients – but, most have at least  .5% in them and sometimes as high as .7%.

Artificial trans fats are made when hydrogen gas reacts with oil. They can be found in cookies, crackers, icing, potato chips, stick margarine and microwave popcorn. About 80 percent of trans fat in American’s diet comes from factory-produce partially hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Why are they so bad for you?

Trans fats pose a higher risk of heart disease than saturated fats, which were once believed to be the worst kind of fats. While it is true that saturated fats — found in butter, cheese and beef, for example — raise total cholesterol levels, trans fats go a step further. Trans fats not only raise total cholesterol levels, they also deplete good cholesterol (HDL), which helps protect against heart disease.

Fourth on the list is Olestra.  This is the additive that Mad TV did a skit on, because of it’s nasty side effects.

Oklahoma Rep. Sally Kern Blames “Sinners” For Recession – Not The Bankers

This is the same woman who made this statement about homosexuality in 2008:  “I honestly think it’s the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam.

Sally Kern’s, a self appointed moral guardian, drafted the “Oklahoma Citizens Morality Proclamation” in which she blames sinners – people with bad moral behavior – for the recession.  Here is a sample:

“We the People of Oklahoma, Invoking the guidance of Almighty God, in order to secure and perpetuate the blessing of Liberty…

WHEREAS, we believe our economic woes are consequences of our greater national moral crisis; and

WHEREAS, this nation has become a world leader in promoting abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, and many other forms of debauchery; and

WHEREAS, alarmed that the Government of the United States of America is forsaking the rich Christian heritage upon which this nation was built; and

WHEREAS, grieved that the Office of the president of these United States has refused to uphold the long held tradition of past presidents in giving recognition to our National Day of Prayer; and

CNN: Talks With Matthew Shepard’s Family About “Federal Hate Crimes Bill”

Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act (MSHCPA – S. 909) that is in the Senate, which will be voted on before the August recess; was inspired by the hate  crime committed against Matthew Shepard.

The horrific events that took place shortly after midnight on October 7, 1998 went against everything that Matthew embodied. Two men, Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson, lead him to a remote area east of Laramie where they demonstrated unimaginable acts of hate. Matthew was tied to a split-rail fence where he was beaten and left to die in the cold of the night. Almost 18 hours later he was found by a cyclist who initially mistook him for a scarecrow.

Matthew died on October 12 at 12:53 am at a hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado. His entire family was by his side for the last few days of his life.

A little background into Matthew Shepard Foundation.

Bachmann Strikes Again…

Michelle Bachmann warns about a link between the “Census” and “Japanese Internment.”  This isn’t the first census she has ever filled out, where was her outrage before now?

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) is taking her refusal to fully fill out her Census form, which is a crime punishable by a $5,000 fine, to a whole new level: Invoking the memory of the Japanese internment during World War II, and the evil role that the Census played in it!

Kucinich Opposes The Army’s “Virtual Reality” Video Game

Dennis J. Kucinich, Democratic Congressman for Ohio’s 10th District, seeks to eliminate federal money used to support a virtual reality warfare game used by the United States Army to lure in new recruits.

The Army’s traveling virtual reality experience which glorifies killing; costs an estimated $9.8 million to run.

Six fully-armed military vehicles, 70 flat screen displays, 50 players. It’s 19,500 square feet of video game firepower, and the Army has aimed this beast directly at America’s youth. The Virtual Army Experience represents one of the latest examples of how the military has embraced video games both as a training, and especially, a recruitment tool. The traveling Virtual Army Experience allows recruitable teens to run through a simulated mission to deliver supplies to aid workers in a fictional city. It also lets them wield laser guns and show off their driving skills against virtual opponents.

Under the fold is a video that shows the Army’s VAE (Virtual Army Experience).  After watching the video, I can completely understand why he opposes this propaganda so much.

Curse of 2012: GOP Presidential Hopefuls Are Having A Terrible Year

If its not in-fighting with their own party, some have been caught having affairs, and then one gave such a horrible speech that he had to step out of the public eye.  The field is getting mighty thin for the GOP.  It is going to be entertaining to see who they will come up with next and if they can manage to not foul it up.
