Not ROMNEY! The GOP needs a Sorting Hat.

Sorting Hat: Hmm, difficult. VERY difficult. Plenty of hypocrites, I see. Not a bad will for dominance, either. There’s cruelty, oh yes. And a thirst to have all the power all to yourself. But who do I give you?
GOP: Not Romney. Not Romney.
Sorting Hat: Not Romney, eh? Are you sure? He could be useful, you know. It’s all there in his platform. And Romney will help you on the way to greatness, there’s no doubt about that. No?
GOP: Please, please. Anything but Romney, anything but Romney.
Sorting Hat: Well if you’re sure, better be… WHO??

Help the sorting hat. Who is it to be? Oh, and apologies to Ms Rowling, I just couldn’t resist.

The Watering Hole: August 16, Tuesday. Jerusalem Straw Poll ca. 30 A.D.

I am totally dumbfounded about the very unlikeliness of the field of Republican front runners. It doesn’t seem to me there will be any more serious contenders this year. Wildcard Palin will not enter, Bachmann will opt out early and we will face the prospect of another “Texan” in the White House, with Romney as a sidekick eventually. I’m serious. All depends on the left and liberals to bury the hatchet with Obama and get fired up. I perfectly recall that election when the highly intellectual and experienced  Vice President Gore encountered the pushover silly boy from Texas. Nuff said.

Breaking News: Tea Party Caucus Blows Off Tornado Victims

Standing firm behind their mantra of personal responsibility, members of the Tea Party Caucus vowed to block all Federal Relief for the victims of the tornados that ravaged the country this past week, killing nearly 300 Americans.

“They chose to live in the path of a tornado” Michelle Bachman said, “and now they have to live with the consequences of that choice.” Bachman said she and other members of the Tea Party Caucus will place holds and filibuster any attempt to provide federal funds for disaster relief in the stricken areas.

“Disaster Relief is just another form of Socialism” said Sarah Palin, who quit as Governor of Alaska following her failed bid to become Vice President so she could exploit the free market with lavish book deals and speaking engagements. “We don’t need to turn to our Goverment for a hand out. We should look to God, who is loving and wonderful and maybe take this as a learning experience, a lesson from God, that we should move to that great and wonderful State of Alaska, which is God’s country, as we all know, because Alaska doesn’t get any tornados, so that’s why I support Michelle and her wonderful Tea Partiers because we don’t need Alaska’s tax dollars going to some free handout to someone who made poor choices all their lives and now God chose to punish them. So really, disaster relief is like going against the will of God. And in this great God-fearing Country of ours, God Bless America, we must never go against God’s Will.”

At that point, a severe weather event caused a power outage at the press conference, and all attendees were herded into storm shelters.

Watering Hole: December 6, 2010 – Say It Ain’t So, Kitty

First, they came for my retirement 401K/IRA.  Then, they devalued my investment properties.  Now, they want to dismantle the only thing between me and living on the streets.  They want my Social Security.

Instead of focusing on a commission to create jobs which would increase tax revenues and increase demands for goods, Obama decided that it was better to go along with the Tea Party’s and Club for Growth wishes reducing Government spending so he opted for a Deficit Commission instead.

So how does the recommendations from the Deficit Commission (Cat Food Commission) effect seniors?  Here’s how…

The plan calls for eliminating most popular tax breaks, while preserving smaller breaks for mortgage interest on primary residences, charitable contributions and employer-paid health insurance. While broadening the tax base, it would lower individual and corporate tax rates from a maximum of 35% to no more than 29%.

It includes higher Medicare copayments and reduced Social Security benefits for many future retirees, as well as an increase in the retirement age from 67, where it’s headed in 2027, to 69 by 2075. Both defense and domestic spending would be slashed, and new rules put in place to lock in those reductions.

Really?  They want you to work until you drop dead on the job.  If you do manage to survive,  there could be a boost for the cat food industry.

Fortunately for Americans, the recommendations did not receive the 14 votes that were needed to move these recommendations to Congress for a vote.  Some members of the commission had this to say:

… co-chair Erskine Bowles (transcribed more or less verbatim). Saying that the the threat of these deficit is “real”, he said: “The solutions will be painful, and there is not easy way out but at the end of this journey America will be a better place.”

The bi-partisan insanity was represented by Senate Budget Chair Kent Conrad: “Other than the terrorist threat to America, this is the greatest threat to America.”

That’s a bit frightening.  In my opinion, high unemployment with few available jobs is a greater threat to America.

Tinklenberg raises $125,000 $400,000 in 24 hours

El Tinklenberg, a moderate Democrat who is running against Michelle Bachmann in Minnesota’s 6th district, raised $125,000 in the last 24 hours after Bachmann spoke on Hardball yesterday questioning Barack Obama’s “anti-American views” and calling or the media to investigate which members of Congress share those anti-American views.  If you missed her disgusting tirade, follow the above link and watch as much as you can stomach.

There is a website up where you can sign a petition to censure her anti-American, fascist rhetoric.  If you believe that there should be no place for comments like this in our political discourse, sign the petition.

Bachmann, an attorney, attended the Coburn School of Law, an affiliate of the now defunct Oral Roberts University.

Some of Bachmann’s previously espoused views:

  • “hyper-regulation” by the federal government created a chain of events that caused bank failures and credit freezes. (source)
  • Congress has been pushing banks to make risky, subprime loans. Using the authority of the Community Reinvestment Act, the big push for subprime mortgages (source)
  • “Loans started being made on the basis of race, and often little else.” Blaming minority lending for economic crisis ‘does not mean I’m a racist’ (source)
  • challenging the nation’s embrace of energy-efficient compact fluorescent lights, saying the government has no business telling consumers what kind of light bulbs they can buy.” (source)
  • told her local St. Cloud Times that she knows of a secret plan by Iran to partition Iraq and turn half of the country into a “terrorist safe haven zone” called the “Iraq State of Islam.”  (source)  She later recanted this accusation.
  • “[Pelosi] is committed to her global warming fanaticism to the point where she has said that she’s just trying to save the planet,” Bachmann told the right-wing news site OneNewsNow. “We all know that someone did that over 2,000 years ago, they saved the planet — we didn’t need Nancy Pelosi to do that.” (source)
  • “We’re losing our country. People are not assimilating themselves to America. They’re not speaking English, and you must speak it if you want to succeed here in this country,” she said. Bachmann also compared the situation on the border to the Israel/Palestine conflict, saying “the argument that fences don’t work doesn’t hold water. Look at Israel and Palestine. Fences work.” (source)
  • “Some suggestions are that perhaps we would see an enhancement of wildlife expansion because of the warmth of the pipeline,” she said. […] The pipeline has now become a meeting ground and “coffee klatch” for the caribou, she said. (source)

I could list many more lunatic rantings of Ms. Bachmann, but I think I have provided enough that you can come to a reasoned conclusion about this woman.  If you feel that America has had enough of Michelle Bachmann, please feel free to donate what you can to her opponent, El Tichlenberg.  The people of this country deserve better than having someone as morally and ethically bankrupt as Bachmann representing them, and the type of rhetoric and hatred that she warmly embraces and espouses.  As we all know, money is needed to win these races.  Do what you can.

Update: $438,346.57. That’s how much El Tinklenberg says has flooded in so far. He’s aiming for half a million.

Pfotenhauer: The “real Virginia” is more responsive to McCain

Nancy Pfotenhauer, an advisor to the McCain campaign, just now spoke on MSNBC about how northern Virginia is polling strongly for Obama due to democrats having moved there from DC,  but the rest of the state of Virginia, the “real Virginia” will be more responsive to McCain’s message.

This follows Sarah Palin just yesterday, in North Carolina, saying:

“We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington, D.C. We believe…we believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation.”

And Michelle Bachmann R-MN, stating that her fellow Congresspeople should be investigated as being anti-American.

When given the chance to correct their words, both Pfotenhauer and Bachmann stood by what they said.

Apparently, according to the Republican point of view, you are only a patriotic American if you are an unquestioning Republican sharing only their views.  Anyone who is not Republican, is anti-American.  Anyone who does not support McCain/Palin are traitors, terrorists or baby-killers. If you question any of their views or policies, it is a personal affront and not an attack against bad policy.

I don’t know about you, but I am very tired of  being labeled anti-American or unpatriotic because of my views and beliefs.  The First Amendment was specifically created to ensure that people could speak out against their government.

I think the Republican’s need to take a refresher course in The Constitution, that god-damned piece of paper which is the fundamental basis for this great country of ours: The United States of America.
