On February 17, 1864, the CSS Hunleyattacked and sank the USS Housatonic in Charleston harbor. Soon thereafter the Hunley also sank, along with her crew of eight. Over 136 years later, on August 8, 2000, the wreck and the remains of the crewmen were recovered. After full DNA evaluation, each crewman was buried with full military honors on April 14, 2004.
