Sunday Roast: Taino Genocide Day

This is a few years old, but still pertinent, as Thom scrapes away at the white-washing — literally and figuratively — of the life and actions of Christopher Columbus.  It’s absolutely sickening, and a horrifying indicator of the coming genocide of the indigenous peoples of the Americas.

Thank goodness the holiday isn’t until Monday — you have time to get to the mall for that big sale.

This is our daily open thread — Barf.

Do as I say, not as I do

At Foreign Policy in Focus, Stephen Zunes has an interesting view of the “U.S. Denial of the Armenian Genocide.”

Ironically, Congress earlier this year overwhelmingly passed a resolution condemning Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for refusing to acknowledge the German genocide of the Jews. That same Congress, however, appears quite willing to refuse to acknowledge the Turkish genocide of the Armenians.

Apparently, we don’t want to provoke the Turks — who are thinking about invading a sovereign nation (Iraq, no less) to go after terrorists it perceives as a threat. Why, what nation would do such a crazy thing?
