Michael Moore sees ‘the end of capitalism’

Raw Replay

Michael Moore is in favor of a bailout for the auto industry but only with a lot of conditions. In a Wednesday interview, Moore told Larry King that the Big 3 car companies should face mandates to build mass transportation and automobiles that use little or no gas. Also, Moore wants to see “a whole new management team.”

Moore thinks that the United Autoworkers Union (UAW) has taken enough cuts in their pay and benefits. “The UAW has — has given back so much to General Motors and the other companies. I’m stunned, actually, at how much they’ve given back. I think they’ve given too much back, frankly,” he said.

The future looks bleak for the current financial system, according to Moore. “I think, really, what we’re seeing here right now with them, with the banks, we’re seeing the end of capitalism — the end of capitalism as we know it.”

Maher: Michael Moore, Connie Schultz, CNN-Holmes & Legend

People submitted questions for Bill Maher to ask his panel.  Michael Moore talked about 85% of Western Democracies have their elections on the weekend – to give everyone a chance to vote.  Moore also stated, that all of them use paper ballots and #2 pencils and they have the results an hour after the polls close.  One of Maher’s best one liners is:  “Those people (Biden) don’t make us sh!t in our pants at the thought that they would be President.”

Update:  The question submitted:  Is Sarah Palin the future of the Republican Party?

Connie Schultz talks about the Washington Post, but the current poll is the New York Times.  Here is an excerpt from that poll.

A growing number of voters have concluded that Senator John McCain’s running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, is not qualified to be vice president, weighing down the Republican ticket in the last days of the campaign, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

My Personal Plea: The Stakes Are Too High-No McCain

I got hit with a revelation this weekend. Normally, I would keep it to myself because; I realize people have their own problems and issues to deal with everyday. But if this succeeds in getting one person to change their mind–about voting for McCain–it will have been worth expressing my pain out loud.

My uncle will pass away before year end from cancer. It is estimated that about 555,500 Americans die from cancer each year; that is 1,500 deaths per day. The cancer he has is very treatable; the survival rate is 5 out of every 6 men. So why is he going to die before year end? NO INSURANCE. He worked as a jailor and they fired him for missing too many days from cancer related sickness. Yes, they are suing, but that takes time. Since the US doesn’t have Universal Health Care or a Single Payer-Program, his sentence is death. If that is not heartbreaking enough; my aunt will more than likely lose their home also. The prescription costs, to keep him comfortable and prolong his life, are so astronomical–that they have fallen so far behind on their bills–foreclosure is inevitable.

The way to stop this vicious healthcare crisis is through Obama’s plan; before more people die from falling through the gapping holes in our current Health Care System.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden have proposed a health care plan to make sure that every American has access to much-needed healthcare. Barack’s plan offers ordinary Americans the same healthcare he uses as a member of Congress, and makes sure it’s affordable for all. Furthermore, no American will be turned away for pre-existing conditions. Read more about Barack’s healthcare plan.

An open letter to God, from Michael Moore

CommonDreams

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Dear God,

The other night, the Rev. James Dobson’s ministry asked all believers to pray for a storm on Thursday night so that the Obama acceptance speech outdoors in Denver would have to be cancelled.

I see that You have answered Rev. Dobson’s prayers — except the storm You have sent to earth is not over Denver, but on its way to New Orleans! In fact, You have scheduled it to hit Louisiana at exactly the moment that George W. Bush is to deliver his speech at the Republican National Convention.

Now, heavenly Father, we all know You have a great sense of humor and impeccable timing. To send a hurricane on the third anniversary of the Katrina disaster AND right at the beginning of the Republican Convention was, at first blush, a stroke of divine irony. I don’t blame You, I know You’re angry that the Republicans tried to blame YOU for Katrina by calling it an “Act of God” — when the truth was that the hurricane itself caused few casualties in New Orleans. Over a thousand people died because of the mistakes and neglect caused by humans, not You.

Some of us tried to help after Katrina hit, while Bush ate cake with McCain and twiddled his thumbs. I closed my office in New York and sent my entire staff down to New Orleans to help. I asked people on my website to contribute to the relief effort I organized — and I ended up sending over two million dollars in donations, food, water, and supplies (collected from thousands of fans) to New Orleans while Bush’s FEMA ice trucks were still driving around Maine three weeks later.

But this past Thursday night, the Washington Post reported that the Republicans had begun making plans to possibly postpone the convention. The AP had reported that there were no shelters set up in New Orleans for this storm, and that the levee repairs have not been adequate. In other words, as the great Ronald Reagan would say, “There you go again!”

So the last thing John McCain and the Republicans needed was to have a split-screen on TVs across America: one side with Bush and McCain partying in St. Paul, and on the other side of the screen, live footage of their Republican administration screwing up once again while New Orleans drowns.

So, yes, You have scared the Jesus, Mary and Joseph out of them, and more than a few million of your followers tip their hats to You.
