TheZoo was created by a group of friends from ThinkProgress, who decided to get together and put on a show. That turned out to be mondo-expensive, so we decided to start a blog instead.

We Critters have a lot to say about a lot of things, usually political topics, so when our Willyloman suggested we start a blog, needless to say, we got a bit excited.

We are a friendly, and generally laid back group linked by a common passion. If you would like to join this gathering, you are welcome! Please join us in the comments section for active and engaging conversation, and the occasional Cesspool Party.

Our site was created as a troll-free zone, friendly to open and uncensored dialog.

We will moderate, and if necessary, ban unruly visitors. Nobody wants to ban or censor people, but the truth is we have a responsibility to step up to the plate and take action based on a consistent and fair policy.

Open and uncensored dialog does not mean no rules. The pertinent definitions of the word “dialog” are:

a. a conversation between two or more persons.

b. an exchange of ideas or opinions on a particular issue, esp. a political or religious issue, with a view to reaching an amicable agreement or settlement. (Example: agreeing to disagree)

If a visitor persistently behaves in a way that violates this meaning, then dialog is not happening, or even worse is being hindered, and it is the job of “Admin” to take action.

This is not about censoring ideas, it’s about managing the site responsibly and staying true to its goal of being a site that is welcoming to open discussion rather than intimidating to open discussion.

Before you comment, you will first need to register with WordPress (if you haven’t already done so — your WP registration at ThinkProgress will not work here, sorry). You will need to provide WordPress with a username (which will be the name your comments appear under) and an e-mail address.
