January 4, 2013 – More “bands you’ve never heard of but really should listen to”

If you’re a Brit or someone in Europe, the above statement may not be true. In the US, however, one of the iconic British 80s bands barely made a ripple. Paddy McAloon is arguably one of the best songwriters of the 80s. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Steve McQueen.

    • That was me. I was referring to some freak who claimed that Freddy Mercury was inciting jihad from beyond the grave because he just realized that the first lines of Bohemian Rhapsody were about killing a man.

      • Right. I had Bohemian Rhapsody in my mind ever since you mentioned that and unlike bimbowhatsernameagain this song and Freddie will be for forever.

  1. Madness

And this one, is one of the few 80s songs I still can listen to in a continuous loop. But really, I am an incurable romantic.
    The Housemartins:

  2. John Walker of the Walker Brothers. A bit risque for the ’60s. This is an English adaptation of Jaques Brel’s ‘Jackie’.

  3. Another two bands and still from the 80s

    Road to Nowhere-Talking Heads

And my ever beloved Frankie goes to Hollywood:

FgtH again, And this will be my guiding principle for 2013

  4. A fantastic song from a somewhat obscure band (The singer is also Paul Simon’s wife). Also, as soon as my friend can scrape together the money to buy my old noisy plane, I’m going to get this plane although I can’t match the artistry of the featured pilot.

  5. I didn’t run off. The Cotton Bowl started, and I can’t listen to the music and watch the feetsball at the same time. Halftime is coming up, though.

    • That happens when I watch ski jumping. The four hills tournament. I can’t concentrate on other things then. My family hates me for it.
